HSG Experience - Hope this helps
All, just wanted to share that I had my HSG this afternoon and it was not as bad as I had read. I wanted to share so that those wavering on whether to get it or not were not dissuaded from doing it.
I was absolutely terrified going into it after reading allllllll the horror stories and knew it would not be a fun experience. I asked my doctor for Xanax prior for the procedure which really helped (highly recommended but remember you can’t drive on it so bring a driver with you).
I won’t lie, it was uncomfortable but not unbearable. Yoga breathing and remembering that the pain will pass really helped. The pain was pretty instantaneous (when the dye went in) which can be shocking but it got better before it got worse. It was a strange type of pain similar to a bad period cramp or a bad gas pain. The pain stayed constant for about 30 seconds and then lessened immediately. Results were immediate which is nice. The rest of the day I’ve felt a little achy all over (I assume from the dye) and light cramping and minimal bleeding. Take it easy and continue taking some Ibuprofen throughout the day and a heating pad has helped too.
I hope this helps someone and lowers their anxiety about the procedure. ❤️
