Buying phone off eBay?

Has anybody ever bought one off of there and everything work fine?
I want to just because some of them are cheaper but I’m kinda nervous I’ll get screwed over.

I bought one and it didn’t work like when I tried activating it. What phone place do you have? Maybe go to an actual phone store and get one? They do monthly payments in your phone bill. At least Verizon does.
