Nipple Shields Necessary for FTM?

For me it was. My right nipple developed a crack along the base of the nipple and it hurt sooooooo much I jumped every time he latched. So nipple balm and a sheild saved my right nipple. Only used it a couple weeks.

I have been using them for a month now and its the only way I can bf. I have flat nipples and my LO has a small mouth and shallow latch. I was cut open and bleeding badly before I used sheilds. I probably wouldn't have continued without them.

Definitely a necessity for me. I have flat and slightly inverted nipples. I would check with a lactation consultant before buying one though because you might not need one. They gave me one at the hospital when latching became an issue

My left nipple is a little inverted and currently my bib hates it. Hoping when he gets older it will change and I won’t need it, but he’s only 2 weeks so we will see

I voted no, I bought a couple just in case. We never needed them. Before using a shield I would see a lactation consultant if you have latch issues.

Nipple shields can make things worse! I had to use them with both my kids for different reasons but my Lactation consultant told me generally she hates them and says stay away from them but there are a few situations where they can be helpful. I wouldn’t use one unless a lactation consultant recommended it to you

I needed them 100%. I wouldn’t say they’re necessary but if you need them, then they are lol
