Baby choked on spit up! What can I do to prevent this?

In the hospital when he was born, my son swallowed some amniotic fluid and throughout the first two nights, he’d choke on it. The nurses and pediatrician said that they can’t choke laying on their back and they can resolve the issue on their own.

I still worry. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep any the first two nights.

That was three months ago. My son has had a few “choking” incidents, but it was mainly coughing.

Today, he was playing on his playmat as usual. I was sitting in a chair near him, and looking on YouTube for music to play as we did Tummy time, and I look up, his mouth was open, his face was red, and he was trying to gasp. I jumped over and picked him up and pat him on the back and saliva and spit up was just hanging from his mouth and he was terrified just as I was.

I almost started crying and I just sat and held him close.

I doubt I’m going to sleep at all the next few days.

I’m going to make him an appointment with his pediatrician.

But is he ok? I’m terrified to lay him down now.
