Historical Item or Hateful Garbage?

#eyeroll

I’m leaning hard to the side of Hateful Garbage. Thoughts?

No one should be able to make money off of things like that, if you're going to do anything with it then give it to a museum or something

In the right hands I think can be viewed as a historical item. There's actually a Museum of Racist Memorabilla. My husband and I (he's white, I'm black) watched video on it and seeing the artifacts truly helped him see world he never knew exsisted.

Interesting! Never would’ve thought about it from that perspective.

Yeah, there’s a TED talk by a guy that collected KKK robes to see how they’re made and has made his own KKK robes with traditional African patterned fabric. He said it was very cathartic for him, to essentially take back or own something that was so frightening to Black Americans. Really interesting.

I mean it could be someone that collects historical items. It’s probably not the worst thing that’s been auctioned off either because people collect all sorts of weird shit. I personally wouldn’t want something like that but there are plenty of history buffs that might.

I don't see harm in it as it's a party (a shitty part) of history. People collect torture devices, and shrunken heads, and all sorts of shit that is really dark. That being said, I think it's better suited for a museum though... Kind of a strange thing to want to have but some people are into that sort of thing.

Not sure. I think they said it was found at a consignment store?

Oh it was a replica? / new?

That's what i was thinking. But would think it more significant if it was like an original robe from when it was started ya know. Not some new model robe lol. If that makes sense?

i think it’s an interesting artifact. The buyer probably bought it out of interest not Bc he’s racist. I’ve been to the holocaust museum and there’s much more terrible things to see there than a klan robe.

I’ve heard the horrible torture hitler did to many sets of twins. It’s awful. We had a guest speaker on a field trip way back in middle school and she was hard to understand but what I did understand it was so sad. I just wanted to hug her. She was very young but she recalls the last time seeing her parents. Etc.

It’s not bigger than a or story house but it’s really interesting because the information is both facts, and the twins own words as too how it felt

In terrehaute there is a small one that was made by two twins who were experimented in during the holocaust(sadly one is now dead), it’s small but they take tours to concentration camps and have like”guest speakers” There.

The only reason why it find it worth it, if it was like the first robe ever. Kinda historical at that point. But still garbage non the less 🤷

I don’t care if you want to buy and sell racist things. I care more about your racist actions in real life.

Just thought it was interesting reading the rest of the storySo given how old the robe is I kind of get it. Not sure why these items are so rare. I assume the KKK doesn't really let their stuff just "go" especially to the public. Apparently one bidder was planning on giving it to a museum that shows artifacts like this. Which I saw another user post about. Great they went there and got some eye opening education in the matter. Does this change or alter anyone's view?Would've it been better if it went straight to a museum?

My apologies. The user saw a video on it.

I'm more concerned about the "anonymous collector" 🤔 I think they are hateful garbage but they're also apart of history. In the future I'd expect to see KKK related items in museums.
