Unsafe face products??

Just read an article about being aware of beauty products when pregnant. I use olay cleanser and whips moisturizer, wondering if people really make changes to things like face wash and body wash when pregnant? Does it really have an effect?

I never changed anything with my first and never felt compelled to change anything this time either. If my body care routine ever impacted the pregnancies, I have yet to see how 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have exfoliators, moisturizers, super clearing and antibacterial soaps.

Yes, it matters. In the U.S. there are hardly any regulations around skin and beauty products. That’s why I use Beautycounter. Their standards are aligned with the European Union and don’t use around 1600 harmful chemicals. Check them out!

I stopped using anything with retinol/retinoic acid and I never used anything with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide but those are the ones to avoid (your body can absorb them systemically and can have negative effects on the baby in certain concentrations but it’s best to avoid them)

I changed my face wash because the one i was using had medication in it for acne, and my OB advised me to switch to something without the chemicals for atleast the first trimester. I have used Cetaphil for my whole pregnancy as my face wash. 
As far as body wash, I’ve always just used Dove or something similar that’s really simple so no problem there.

Salicylic acid is one they say to stay away from so check in your face wash and moisturizer and be sure they don't have that in them.
