Hey, so I’m 15 and ever since February of last year I’ve started to enjoy listening and following up with Kpop. Last year I can admit that I had an addiction with the boy band called BTS, and thanks to my mother I’ve come out of that. But, I still do enjoy the art style, the artists, fashion, dances, trends..... and I’ve had a lot of thought and prayer about this topic, but I just wanted to hear a second opinion on my enjoyment of kpop. Is it wrong? Is it only going to hurt me?

All opinions are open- thanks! 💕😁

Just an idea of art style and artists for ppl who don’t know 👇👇

Hey, I understand where you’re coming from. I was really into KPop when I first heard it, I loved the music and the style! Unfortunately, I looked into what these artists go through in order to be successful and it’s pretty brutal. Often it involves strict diets that can lead to eating disorders and sometimes even body modification through plastic surgery. So for me, not only was it promoting unrealistic body image, but it can be dangerous and unhealthy for the artists who get into KPop.

I think it's to the degree of which you like them. I also enjoy K-pop, J-poo and anime. But I wouldnt say I'm addicted to it. I listen to it here and there and I don't watch anime ever moment I get the chance. You admitted to being addicted to BTS and have worked on it. I think that's very healthy that you were able to admit it and work on it to get better. All in moderation.

I saw a comment similar to this on a video not long ago, I think it really just depends on the person. If you’re constantly distracted because of it then it’s unhealthy, but if it’s an aid to your life and taking it over then its not bad. I’m similar age to you and I love BTS with my whole heart, they are absolutely amazing people and their songs are all about positivity and real topics that you don’t find in other songs. I’m sure you know that though since you really loved them too! For me personally, I’ve always listened to music to calm down. I can succumb to anxiety a lot in public, but when I can focus on music it really helps me. I pay a lot of attention to them elsewhere, I watch their stupid little live-streams and stuff, but I don’t let it take over my school or time with parents. It’s actually allowed me to open up to my parents more about my insecurities with my appearances and my passions. I’m passionate about dancing, so I know that BTS (and other kpop artists) will be a part of my life for a very long time as dancers I look up to. All I can say is, it really depends on how you use the music you listen to. I can’t listen to female groups purely because I can’t ruin my brain with thinking I don’t look good enough like they do. So, I don’t! I listen to the music that lifts me up and I can practice dance to, and I watch their videos that give be a breath of fresh air from the negativity I see at school all the time. This has extended out too, I’m interested in Taemin (his dancing OOF such a King), NCT, Exo, GOT7, some iKon, and hopefully TXT. BTS still shines in my heart though and has the most positive music. I don’t find kpop to be a negative thing unless you make it a negative thing. I don’t agree with their vigorous dieting or schedules necessarily, but I still enjoy them and their music. Keep praying, I hope you know what’s best for you! 🙏🏼👍🏼
