Do you consider spanking to be child abuse?

I’m giving my toddler a swat on the butt not beating her. One swat not hard enough to leave marks. And only if she does something way out of line. Otherwise I use time outs.

No. I probably should’ve spanked my 4yo. Never spanked her & she’s a horrible child. Physically violent. And no, she’s never been hit. It’s freaking ridiculous that I’m scared to death to discipline my kids because assholes like to call CPS over everything, including yelling. Yet if the kid acts out in public, they’re disgusted and say we don’t deserve to be parents. So now y’all have to deal with my child being horrible because y’all wanna call CPS over spanking or yelling. Can’t have it both ways.

I spank my little one. I’ll tell him not to throw something and he will look me dead in the face and throw it without skipping a beat. He gets a pop on the bottom. I make him say sorry for not listening to mommy because he could get hurt throwing something that could break. Then he moves right on. He’s gotten significantly better with listening. I was spanked a handful of times in my life and I’ve never been violent or aggressive. That correlation seems skewed to me.

Spanking is emotionally harmful to children. It’s not an effective way to discipline and isn’t recommended by pediatricians.

Spanking (as long as its not beating) isn’t considered abuse. But that being said it is emotionally scarring and other ways to discipline your children are STRONGLY encouraged.
