What to expect when flying with a baby?

My family are planning a trip to Hawaii with my 9 month old baby. This will be our FIRST time traveling with a baby on an airplane. We seriously have no idea what to expect. Can anyone give me some ideas about what to expect like carseat, strollers? Can we bring formula ready to feed milk into the airplane? Thanks in advance!

You need to check with your airline regarding specifics. I just flew with American Airlines last weekend with my 7 month old. I checked her car seat and kept her stroller with me. I checked it before boarding. With AA you can have one diaper bag as a carry on per child. She sat in my lap during the flights. When going through security, I pulled her baby food (solids), shampoo, diaper cream, etc out of the diaper bag. I didn’t try to travel with formula or breastmilk, so I can’t help you with that one. I recommend getting a pacifier clip and having it on baby during the flight. Have them use the pacifier during takeoff and landing to help their ears pop. Bring some toys. And just be prepared for baby to cry at least some. Good luck!

All Airlines let you check a car seat for free, just take it to the ticket counter. Also check on line for more policies, some let you take even more than that. Also they let you gate check a stroller. You leave it at the entrance to the plane and it’s the last thing stored bellow and the first thing taken off the plane, you’ll have it when you walk back out. TSA let’s you take liquids over 3 oz when you have a baby but it usually gets checked extra. Iv had then sent through a special machine, samples taken, and a strip held over the liquid. Just get to the airport early. I never get searched but my husband ALWAYS does when we travel with baby. So warn whom ever is with you that they are subject for pat downs.
