My birth story wasn't quite what I expected but I guess it never really is. I'm a first time mom so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I had a pretty great pregnancy with any complications. My due date was January 28, 19. Last Friday my husband and I did some shopping and while we were out I noticed I started to get some menstrual like cramps that also involed my lower back. Nothing that I couldn't handle and I wouldn't have called them contractions. Well when I got home I went to the bathroom and noticed some blood in the toilet after I was done. I wasn't to concerned being that I had seen my doctor earlier that week and she checked my cervix. However, after that one episode of bleeding I started urinating constantly and continued to have blood. I decided to call my obgyn and she said it sounds normal but if I wanted to I could go get checked out. I decided to Waite it out for a while. It kept happening and I kept having mild cramping. So finally at 12:30am my husband and I went to the hospital. I was checked and hooked up to fetal/contraction monitor. I was at 2cm but that was it and no significant contractions. Well by 3am I was lying in the triage bed and felt a twing of pain and then a pop followed by a gush. My water broke. After that it was a long haul. I was in labor for 21 hours and actively pushed for 4 hours and finally Sunday morning at 12:50am my baby boy was born 1 day before his due date. He weighed in at 7 lbs 12 oz and 20 1/2 inches long.
