Anyone else have trouble?

My mom got me a stethoscope to listen to my baby’s heartbeat when I’m not at appointments. I have not once been able to find it with the stethoscope or even with those apps that let you record the heartbeat. Every time I try, he won’t stop moving and it makes it impossible to find his heartbeat. I’m getting frustrated because I feel like a terrible mom since I can’t even find his heartbeat on my own. Has anyone else had this problem?

Unless you have a special cardiac stethoscope and are past 24 weeks you may never hear it (it’s dependent on so many factors). If you are ever concerned you can stop in your OB office and ask them to use the Doppler

Using a stethoscope can cause issues because you have to differentiate between your own pulse noises as well as the placenta. I think a Doppler is the best way to listen at home but some people post about risks associated w them. I don’t think anything is wrong with you or it makes you a bad mom cuz you can’t hear it.

Most people still can’t hear it from a stethoscope even when knowing how to use one properly and being far enough along. Sometimes the fetal Doppler doesn’t pick up on my daughters because she seems so far away or tucked behind my placenta. I have anterior placenta. I wouldn’t worry too much.
