Pumping in a shared office
I don't know how many of you follow the Dear Prudence advice column on Slate, but it's sort of a guilty pleasure of mine. Yesterday a question came up that sparked a lot of debate on Facebook, so I thought I'd bring it up in CC.
The question was about a coworker using a breast pump in the middle of a shared office. The letter writer added that their company had a private room specifically for nursing mothers and was wondering if this is something they should address (as the noise disturbs co-workers and visitors) or if they should just let it be. Prudie advocated for addressing the issue and having this mom use the private room (and noted it in other sections of the chat that this would be different if this woman had a private office vs what I'm assuming to be a cubicle). So, what say you, CC? Was this good advice or should pumping mommas be free to pump wherever they feel comfortable?
I couldn't figure out how to post the link and the question (Slate is notorious for paywalls for international readers, so wanted to give some context for those who couldn't follow the link), so I'm posting screenshots of the question and answer.
