Lactose intolerant?
How would you know if your baby is lactose intolerant? We were using Similac Advance, which is milk based powder. But she seemed to get a lot of bad gas from it, to the point where she’d cry for hours and wouldn’t sleep. So we decided to try Similac Soy Isomil, which is soy based powder. She’s sleeping now and seems to do a bit better. We also add a little bit of mylicon in with to help with the gas.
I don’t know if she’s actually lactose intolerant, or if the Similac Advance was just too hard on her tummy. My MIL said she twins were like that for a while and they’re not lactose intolerant. So could it just be that the Similac Advance is just too hard on her tummy? It has all those extra nutrients and stuff in it whereas the new one we’re trying doesn’t.
We don’t see her pediatrician until March but he said he thinks all formula is the same so if we had to switch, then it wouldn’t be an issue that would require doctor approval first.
I don’t think it’s colic either because it hasn’t been a consistent thing. Our 10 month old was on Similac Advance since birth and never had issues, only some bad gas here and there.
