FROM EXPERIENCE is an epidural worth it?

This is my 4th time giving birth, one hospital birth, 2 home water births. The plan is another home water birth, but I’m seriously panicking about the pain and am considering just going in for an epidural this time. Does anyone have stories good/bad about getting an epidural?

You’re going to get mixed answers from everyone, do some research and look at the pros and cons. This is my first baby and I’m deciding to get the epidural, think it will be worth it to make myself as comfortable as possible during it so why not take the pain relief instead of sitting there in agony.

I have an epidural with both labors so far. For me, the epidural brought sooo much relief. Contractions are no joke, and once I had my epidurals I was able to relax and stay calm. I was in so much pain that I did not even feel the needle go in. I will definitely be getting one again.

It was seriously the best thing ever.  I couldn't feel any pain, but I could still feel that tightening she I knew when to push.  I pushed for 2 hours straight and then needing an episiotomy (which I couldn't feel) due to her head simply not making it through.  I almost passed out.  I literally don't think I would have made it without the epidural and would have needed a c section at the last minute.

Look into hypnobirthing. There does not need to be severe pain. The more fear you have around it the more tension you will create in your body which will increase your pain. You can do it!

Not worth it to me, dropped my blood pressure severely, slowed my contractions down and I ended up with an emergency c section if I can do a vbac I am 100% not getting it this time the fear of having the same situation is greater than the fear of pain

I have a very low pain tolerance and I couldn’t take the contractions. I didn’t have any bad reactions to the epidural.

No, not worth it in my eyes. Slowed down my contractions ended up needing an assisted delivery ending with a 3rd degree tear. Now having to have a caesarean this time around.

I was so stubbornly against it my first time, thought I knew everything thanks to all the super opinionated information out there. 😜 Got to 6cm and was claustrophobic and throwing up and begged for one. Then it was HEAVEN. No joke, I’m the poster child for epidurals now. Didn’t slow my labor (I’ve heard that’s only if you get it too early??), didn’t affect the baby, didn’t make me unable to push, etc. It was perfect. I was able to feel pressure to know when to push and was so much more coherent.

Getting the epidural was the worst part of labor for me, if that tells you anything.
