What would you do if you found out that your child committed a vehicular hit and run?

Mo

This is an actual situation that just happened in my area last week.

A person was driving and stopped at a red light. A 16 year old girl rear ended them and took off— but not before the person who was hit could get the first three letters of the tag memorized as well as general info of the car, like make and model.

The person posted on Nextdoor (a site that shares neighborhood/surrounding neighborhood news) with all of the info.

People identified the car as she was a neighbor to some and the girl was arrested, and the parents were shamed as people mentioned that they were on the Nextdoor site as well and most likely read the post and didn’t do anything about it (that’s their assumption tho).

There was argument in the comments revolving around parents who said they’d protect their kid and help them cover it up because “all kids make mistakes” and stuff like that.

Let’s say this is the same situation with your hypothetical child. Your kid comes home with extreme damage to the front end of their car, and they have no proof of how it happened or why they didn’t call the police. You see the post on Nextdoor and realize they are talking about your kid.

Do you:

A. Turn your kid in to the police yourself (do you get them a lawyer?)

B. Force your kid to turn themselves in to the police

C. Contact the people your child hit and try to work it out privately

D. Do nothing, let the police find her

E. Quickly take it to a body shop and pay out of pocket to fix the damage on the car and deny all wrongdoing

F. Other/combo/your own idea
