First IUI - What to Expect?

Question

I’m undergoing my first IUI on Sunday (fourth cycle of Femara). Wondering what to expect in terms of pain? I underwent an HSG during my second cycle, and it was incredibly painful. Should I expect similar pain with an IUI? Any suggestions for lessening the pain? My PA told me no ibuprofen beforehand like I did before my HSG. If it matters, I have a tilted uterus and have never been pregnant. Feeling pretty nervous!

IUI is pretty tame in comparison to the HSG. It feels a lot like a Pap smear but with a bit more pressure as the sperm is injected. I wouldn’t describe it as painful, just a little uncomfortable at times.

It’s not too painful at all! Especially in comparison to an HSG! I was also pretty worried when I went in for my first one, but 3 more down the road, and I still haven’t experienced any terrible pain or discomfort with any of them. Just a little pressure, then you’re good to go!  I hope all goes well for you! 🤞🏻

There was a bit of pressure but definitely was not painful. There was a speculum which is never very comfortable but doesn’t hurt much. The whole thing took maybe 5 minutes and then after that I laid on the table with my hips elevated for ~15 minutes to help things along. Good luck!
