Newborn with crusty eyes

My son is a month old today and pretty much since birth or soon thereafter, he began having a bit of goop in his eyes and crusty eyes when he wakes up. It looks very similar to an eye infection only his eye isn’t red at all or bugging him so must not be itchy or sore. I’m assuming this is a clogged tear duct and my doctor did say they were common when we saw him for my son’s 2-week followup. Anyone else’s littles have this? Anything I can do besides gently cleaning his eyes with a warm cloth and massaging the inner corner?
