Middle school attendance, who's wrong?
This public middle school is having a problem with kids showing up to daily morning orientation, which is like daily announcements for the whole school. Which starts at 7:35 am, and real school starts at 8:00 am.
This isn't a class or anything important. It's supposedly manditory, but was never in the policy either. It sounds like a teacher started doing it 20 years ago and they made it a thing informally. All the kids eat breakfast and listen to the adults talk then are forced to sing their state and school anthems together as a massive group. Apparently this is super important for the school because they had a problem with some of kids showing up closer to 8 when class actually starts. These kids are supposedly either kids who's parents refuse to drag them to school sooner for nothing or 'bad kids' who skip it.
So the schools response was to hand out detention slips out at the one unlocked door in and out of the building. That aside, the lady who was handing them out decided one second past 7:35 was too much. She handed out a lot of slips between 7:36 and 7:40 and finally was under fire by an angry mom, who's child walked through the door with her but since when she past the desk during the minute after her daughter was given a slip. This mom spoke up and soon there was a angry mob of other parents with simular stories.
This whole thing didn't stop uncooperative parents or skipping kids either btw.
Who's the problem here?
The parents/kids who wouldn't comply
The school in general
The nit-picking teacher giving slips
