Gain detergent?

So I use Gain detergent with aroma boost as my regular detergent. We just got a TON of free baby stuff from my husbands coworker. He surprised me and brought it all home tonight. I'm talking boxes and boxes of clothes. The only problem is they all smell like smoke. :( I want to wash them right away so they dont smell up the nursery, but I only have Gain detergent and not free and clear or unscented. Does anyone use their regular detergent on baby clothes?

Think about it, you hold your baby while wearing clothes you've washed in your detergent. It makes no sense to get special detergent for your child's clothes when they'll be touching yours, I wouldn't worry about it

I'd say use it now to get the smell out and you can re wash them later with different detergent.

You could wash in gain and then wash again in free and clear. I eventually do use regular detergent for my kids, but for newborns I do stick with the free and clear at first. Especially the Aroma boost etc has extra fragrance and chemicals added to it.

I've only used regular detergent on all my kids I'm on my 4th baby....the only time I switched detergents is if one of them started showing signs of an allergy

I truly don’t think you can ever really get the smell of smoke of of fabric no matter how much you wash it 🤷🏼‍♀️  I always swear I can still smell it.

Look up third-hand smoke. As kind as the gesture is of the free clothing, I don’t think you’ll be able to remove the smoke particles just by washing unfortunately.

I havent and I wouldnt risk it. The smoke should come out with a good wash with free and clear detergent. Good luck momma

As someone else said, look up third hand smoke. If they reek of smoke, they probably won’t be safe even if you get the smell out.
