Birth plan?

Okay so this is probably a really dumb question but what’s a birth plan? My doctor asked me at my appointment what my plan was and I was like ummm to have the baby?? 🤷🏼‍♀️

all i said for mine is that i would like to labour in the birthing pool and that i want an epidural to be the last resort haha!

They want to know, who you want in the room, who do you want to cut the cord, do you plan on getting an epidural, any special requests,etc. I didnt make one because some moms get stressed when things dont go as planned, and im more of a go with the flow person.

I was advised by the midwife to write a plan that’s flexible. Because apparently those who are TOO flexible can be pushed around by the doctors, nurses and midwives who like to control the situation with unnecessary medical intervention.
So with my plan, I’ve included back ups for pain control, who I’m having with me, backups if those people can’t be there, options for if baby is in distress, options for if I’m in distress, etc etc.
So my plan is to go as natural as possible unless it’s 100% medically needed. My plan is very flexible so I won’t be disappointed if things need to change. Everyone’s been fairly impressed by it haha.

😄 just a basic question to find out what you want for your baby once it comes. Starting with epidural or other pain medicines, and special requests like water births or otherwise. Then who's gonna be watching or with you, do you want to cord bank, delay clamping the cord, who's gonna cut the cord, do you want immediate skin to skin or clean skin to skin, are you going to breast feed, vaccines, blood tests ect. And even some places ask you want food or drink you'll possibly want afterwards.

I didn't write one. I'm just going to ask them to delay the cord clamping when the time comes. I'm happy to go with the flow

Personally I think that’s the best birth plan to have because it’s just about the only thing that you can be fairly sure will happen. 
Birth plans include things like who should be in the room, how would you like to manage your pain, do you have special wishes like delayed clamping, do you want to breastfeed after, etc. Some people write out really elaborate plans down to what music they want to listen to. If that makes you feel more in control, go for it. Just know that many times something will go a bit differently and in that case it’s best not to get too hung up on details. With my first my birth plan consisted of a form my doctor gave me and me checking some boxes but mostly writing that I didn’t know yet. This time I was not given a form and so I won’t have a written plan. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Haha! I'm on my third and i always say the same thing,  except for a few medical requirements specific to me which i remind them of,  i say I just want to leave with my baby.
