UTI? Help 😕

Good morning! And happy Super Bowl Sunday!Has anyone been diagnosed with a UTI during a pregnancy? I went to ER yesterday for occasionally having strong urge to urinate only to have a small amount come out. They took a urine sample but won’t have results back until tomorrow. They still prescribed me Macrobid 100mg 2x per day for 5 days to start immediately. I called my OB on call doctor and he agreed I should start without getting culture back as well. Has anyone had a similar experience? Nervous to take the medicine, even though I realize a potential UTI is dangerous untreated.

I’ve had one this pregnancy, I had no symptoms at all, my Dr said they are super common during pregnancy because the urethra opens up wider to allow more bacteria in 😬😬

I don’t take any medicine, not even OTC, but I got a UTI early on, and was on that, and it was fine.

Thanks so much for all your input ladies! I ended up taking my first dose this morning. Hoping it was just baby and I can discontinue tomorrow. Pregnancy can be so stressful!

Same here   turned out it wasn't a uti, the baby was just squishing my bladder so much that I had to pee constantly.  Better to b safe than sorry tho

I get UTIs fairly frequent I used to get them every other month! Last one I had was a year ago. 2 weeks ago I was about just over 20 weeks and woke up went to the bathroom. And immediately knew I had one. I had slight burning but then urgency right after I went. Went in for my anatomy scan that day anyway so told midwife and did urine sample and yup! Was the start of one. I picked up my antibiotics the next day, I was on Bactrum for 3 days. Now doing well. Any different and new meds during pregnancy can be scary. I was bleeding at 5 weeks along and found out it was due to a mild yeast infection that I didn’t have symptoms of. Come to find out what they prescribed was really dangerous for a growing baby 😡 the ER doctor who doesn’t typically work with pregnant women. Good thing I didn’t take it! Following Monday called my midwife and she prescribed me like a vaginal cream antibiotic.
The thing is I’ve never heard of the medicine they put you on especially since you don’t know yet if that’s what’s going on. My last pregnancy I thought I had UTI but wasn’t one at all. I’d be leery about starting something like that however I guess trust in your OB if they said it’s ok for now. Plus side, you’re in the second trimester so it’s typically safer since baby is developed now and just growing! Good luck!

It’s kind of weird that they didn’t run a urinalysis and are only waiting for the culture results? I’d start it pending results. Discontinue if negative. I had the same issue recently but I work at a medical office and dipped my urine. It was normal.. just baby sitting on my bladder.

I had a similar experience. Was told to start macro before culture can back. I nearly finished the meds and it came back negative, but my ob said to finish it since I was almost done. Still don't know what the issue was, but it went away after I took the meds. I started a probiotic right after and still take it.
