I think a series of choices leads you to love someone. If you’re just infatuated with someone and you choose to continue talking with them and hanging out with them and you choose to let those feelings develop, then you chose to love them. You don’t just meet someone and fall in love immediately. I’ve chosen this argument because of the guys that cheat emotionally or physically and then say ‘it just happened.’ No it didn’t. You made a series of choices that became the outcome.

When I fell deeply in love with my husband, I had no control like I had in my previous two serious relationships. It was torture and I had convinced myself I was only going to get hurt. But I couldn’t control my heart/emotions. What a roller coaster it was but 5 years later we are still madly in love with each other.

I think it's both. I thinking the initial love is a feeling but after is a choice. You can choose to let the love grow and flourish or to push it away and hide it. You can choose what to do and keep it but when it does happen usually it happens without even realizing it.

I firmly think you can choose (talk yourself into or out of) liking someone but you can't control who you love. I have desperately wanted to stop loving someone and not been able to.

It’s both. However i think the bigger chunk is choosing to love somebody. That is effort.
