City hall wedding. Yay/nay?

How does everyone feel about city hall ceremonies? My man and i know were going to get married but are struggling with wanting to be married and saving for the wedding we want so he suggested a city hall ceremony to make it official until we can afford our dream wedding. I have mixed feeling, curious what everyone thinks.

We are about to do this, we have a baby due soon and will do a simple civil service shortly after and maybe do a bigger wedding in a few years when there is more money for it. I think it's just fine . Just make sure it is what you want

I’d rather have a courthouse wedding, a nice formal dinner with a small party of people- under 20 guests and then spend good money on a honeymoon...

I’d say nay. I feel like the likelihood of doing that and then having your ideal wedding is low. I also think it would make the “real” wedding not feel like it should. I think if you want a court house wedding that’s cool, but if it’s not what you really want, why go that route ?

We had a city hall wedding and a small dinner for about 20 people and 8 months later we had the church wedding and the huge reception. To be honest both me and my husband consider the city hall the best as it was so intimate and romantic and all about us and our love. The big wedding felt more like a “show” we put up to make our families happy 😒

If you want to have your dream wedding why not just wait a few years then; what is the rush to get married right now?

Absolutely. It was just us and immediate family (maybe 6 people). I couldnt have done something so intimate in front of a load of people and spending and stressing over money and the ceremony. Santa Barbara courthouse.

I did it. Only immediate family was present. Did the ceremony a year later. No one knew. It was the best decision.
