How to pursue a relationship?

So I’ve been in this thing with a guy, we’ve hung out a couple times and i really like him and I think he might like me a lot too. I want to ask him “what are we” or “where do you see this going?” Sorta like next step stuff, But idk how without making it weird. I think he’s down for either a hookup or relationship as am I. I don’t want to force him though. But I want things to finally be clear so i know where we stand. How can I go about it? Like I want to pursue a relationship but I don’t want him to feel like he has to ask me out right on the spot or something.
