How did yall work up the courage to leave an abusive relationship?

Honestly, at one point in my life I was in an abusive relationship for about five years with a man who was physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive. He would put me in wrestling moves for real, drag me down the stairs by my hair, tell me no one would ever love me if I left him, and cheat on me with around 50 females ages 14-46. 
What it took for me to leave him at 24, no matter how much I loved him, was I found out he was fucking a mutual underage friend (she was his neighbor and in my brother's class) and in return he was giving her drugs and alcohol. Something about that made it so real, unlike the others who I never met, that it woke me up and I left that night.
Since then I have been cheated on by two other long term boyfriends, I just found out over the weekend about the latest, and I just left. Right now I'm going through all the grief, blaming myself, and falling apart, but after the first one I realized that I am worth more than that and eventually will get over him.
What it takes is that realization that you don't deserve to be treated in that manner and I think you have based on your post. The next important step is to get away and cut all communication with him permanently or if he was anything like mine, he'll try to sweet talk his way back into your good graces and might a few times. You know the cycle and need to remain strong enough to break and keep it broken and I know you can. Hugs and strength
