Should a cat collar have a bell?

I have a indoor kitten that hates the bell on her collar. Is it necessary or is it okay to remove it? We do not plan to let her outside without a play pen with cover.

Definitely not necessary - they were designed to protect the bird and wildlife population from our felines’ honed hunting skills. Unless any of her string toys need protecting, you’re good to get rid of the bell. 
My three boys don’t even have a collar (though they’re microchipped) they are outside cats but only allowed during daylight where the hunt is not so good. 
Make sure any collar you have breaks away if your cat accidentally gets caught somewhere - much safer to microchip if you’re worried about her accidentally going outside and getting lost.

None of our animals wear a collar inside at all. I prefer cat collars with bells when they go outside to warn birds they are coming. It's the least I can do when releasing predators into their territory.

Your kitten may accidently get loose and predators can be persistent and find their way through play pens and such, it'll be best to not draw too much attention :)

If your kitten is going to stay indoors, a bell would be useful so that you can keep track of them. But if your kitten is going to be outdoors every now and then I wouldn't recommend it because of the chance of being caught by predators.

It's not necessary. A collar is not even necessary if you don't want it. Our indoor cats have never worn collars.

My cat doesnt have a collar, and our dog only has his on for walks away from the house and when we bring him somewhere in the car. Wearing a collar all the time cannot be comfortable
