My HyCosy Experience

Rachel

Just thought I’d share my experience of the HyCosy I had his morning as there is a lot of scare stories about them. I was absolutely petrified about having it done as all the posts/research I had done seemed to be negative with reports of people being sick, passing out etc.

I was booked in for 8.30am this morning, there were two nurses present and a doctor. The nurse started off my giving me an internal scan to check the uterus, ovaries and the amount of follicles on the ovary, the dr was looking at the screen and they were talking to each other. The other nurse was talking to me taking my mind off of the whole thing. They then removed this and the dr then put a small speculum in (he said my cervix was a bit ‘shy’) but he managed to get it in and it didn’t hurt whilst he was trying. He then put the catheter in (this was slightly uncomfortable) and removed the speculum which then took away the slight discomfort. Next up they put the internal ultrasound back in and put the dye in the catheter. Only when the dye was put in did I get some period like cramps but it was over within seconds. The whole procedure lasted max 15 minutes.

Obviously I appreciate everyone is different but I thought I would let those of you that are due to have it done know that my experience was actually ok! Try not to worry and read to much into the horror stories :)

They found that my uterus and ovaries looked good and I had lots of follicles. The right Fallopian tube spilled the dye instantly so is open but they weren’t too sure about my left tube as they didn’t see any spillage so it could be blocked or it could be that they missed it, it lets the other one do the work etc etc. I asked the dr if that could be the reason why I haven’t conceived since my miscarriage 18 months ago and he didn’t think so as he said that the rates between having two working Fallopian tubes and one working tube are about the same when ttc. Just got to wait to speak to the specialist now so we can discuss all of our test results.

Also it’s now 10.19am and I have not had any other cramps since the HyCosy was carried out, hopefully it stays that way :)
