Are baby walkers safe?

Hi ladies, I’m a new mum to a 7 month old. Was wondering what your views are on baby walkers? Would you recommend or is it better for baby to learn walking by themselves? I know with any baby equipment they should always be supervised, but wanted to know are walkers safe? Thank you

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics they do pose a safety risk and can actually DELAY independent walking:
Infant walkers have been a source of concern among health care professionals for years. They can lead to injuries from falling down stairs and gaining access to objects that otherwise may have been out of reach. Their use also can delay motor development, according to the study “Infant Walker-Related Injuries in the United States” (Sims A, et al. Pediatrics. Sept. 17, 2018

I hadn't heard all this about it not being safe and delaying walking. My daughter loved hers and started walking independently at 10 months 🤷‍♀️. Ask the pediatrician.

Baby walkers do not teach babies how to walk. They cause awkward walking and standing positions for babies that are not developmentally ready to walk. You could use the kind that they stand behind and hold onto. They are also a safety risk because they give babies access to things they could reach before and can tip over.

They are illegal here in Canada and I would assume there is a good reason why.

Our pediatrician told us to not use one because they're not safe!

The dr recommended we use the doorway bouncer, but we already had a walker from my shower. We use it on our 1st level she scoots around in it & eats snacks on the tray, she's been cruising furniture since ~8mo (currently 10mo & started crawling last week) so I dont think shes delayed bec of it

My LO loved hers.  I followed her around just to make sure she  was safe.  She was walking at 9 months.  I don't think it's from using the walker tho. I also live in a ranch style house.  I probably wouldn't have gotten one if I had to worry about stairs.  🤷

My daughter loves her walker. It makes it easier for her to get into stuff put up higher, but she will scoot around in that thing all day.
