Dr refusing ultrasound?

I was told at a pre-conception appt not to make my first prenatal till I was 8 weeks, so I did. I asked today if I'd be getting an ultrasound then, and they said not till 12 weeks. I requested to have it sooner and they refused. Anyone else have this??

No real reason to do them so early.  I’m actually surprised it’s so common now.

In UK the first ultra sound (except certain circumstances) will not do an ultra sound until 12 weeks.
Maybe it’s just so they can have something more accurate 
I would ask them why they won’t do an earlier one, it could just be the way they do things in your area 🤷🏼‍♀️

In New Zealand we can have one at/after 6 weeks and they call it a “Dating Scan” to make sure your dates measure up.

My dr here in Washington doesn’t do many either. The only reason they have one scheduled on week 12 is my request for first trimester genetic screening. They said before that there isn’t much to see. They said 12 weeks & on they usually just check the heart beat with the Doppler I believe that is what they called it.

I’m sorry my drs office said anytime I want one if I’m concerned they will do it but maybe that’s because I had a MC recently? They normally do 9 weeks @ my dr office

This must depend on where you live. Where I am it is standard to do a 'dating scan', as early as 6 weeks. 
Maybe look into the 3D ultrasound places for a private, earlier scan?

12 weeks is standard here too, but I will be offered an 8 week scan for reassurance after 3 miscarriages x

That's to soon. If you have no health problems they have no reason to do it sooner .
