Daycare

My son is 2 and just started daycare this week, I know it's normal for kids to cry while the get use to a new place and routine but it breaks my heart to see him cry every morning at drop off, specially because he says "lets go Mammy or mammy no" and hold on to me and wraps his legs around me. When I pick him up they tell me once he calms down he does fine. Once he sees me he cries and hugs me, I feel like a horrible mom and like he might feel abandon. Any ideas how to make it easier on him or if you have experience and know how long it might take for him to feel better.
