Breastfeeding and teeth

Amy • Happily married since Oct 2012. Mummy to Dawson born June 2015 & Mayella born Jan 2018.

So I have EBF my now one year old and she’s just got her top teeth. (She now has 8 teeth in total) how do you mammas cope with the biting??

I breastfed my older son but stopped when I went back to work when he was about 10months so never got to this stage with him.

I have tried to show her that’s she’s hurting me when she bites but she has just turned one and even though she looks sad when I tell her firmly no... she does it again.

Is it just a phase?? The front two teeth at the top are just cutting through so she chewing all her toys but how do I get her to stop eating me!!

She bit so hard yesterday that it bled!

Ahh don’t know what to do!?

Yuck. I hate that phase and it did end up just being a phase for my kids at that age. Sorry, I know that hurts like crazy... for my daughter she bit me every time we tried to nurse for an entire day and I just kept taking it away every time and saying ow. The next day she was fine and I don’t remember her ever doing it again. It pretty much happened about the same for my son but then at 18m he started again and would bite me and think it was funny so I took it as a sign that he was done breastfeeding and just cut him off cold turkey. He didn’t care not one little bit so I do think it was probably just him being over it.

First time and only time my son bit me I removed him from boob immediately and put him in his crib. He cried for ten minutes but he learned his lesson
