Should I get a regular infant car seat or a convertible car seat?

I’ve done a lot of research and every board I read says it’s 100% safe for a newborn/infant to be in a convertible car seat. (As long as they fit properly) But I trust other moms opinions and would like to know what you all think? It would be nice to spend 200$ and be done buying car seats. Or buying an infant one first then going to a convertible seat.

I did a convertible with my first and it wasn't a problem at all. I would have done the same with my second if we had a bigger car but I just couldn't fit it properly. I might get a couple more months out of the infant seat but it's getting pretty tight just 7 months in. It seems like such a waste of money for something used for a short time.

With my first I went straight to a convertible because I mostly carried him/baby wore ... with this baby I need the convenience of being able to click the seat in to the stroller in the event I cannot carry him all the time. 
So it all depends on how much activity you do etc., but small babies can use strollers without a car seat, if you do decide you don’t want to use the infant seat. 
We still ended up having to buy 2 convertible seats because we have 2 vehicles and didn’t want to switch back & forth.
