My son bangs his head when he’s tired or upset. He kept us up throughout the night last night from bouncing his head ruthlessly off of his mattress. I’m so exhausted and annoyed with this behavior, to be honest. Does anybody else’s child do this?! He’s 1

The fact that he stopped and checked to see if you’re still there watching makes me think he’s doing it for attention. 
Have you tried turning off the light and ignoring it? It may take a few times but he has to learn he isn’t gonna get attention for doing it.

I think it’s for attention. If the baby is in a safe place just walk away and don’t let him see you. It must be annoying but it’s all for attention..

Honestly I watched the video over and over and I’d say it’s almost definitely for attention. Everyone may have a different approach but if it was my daughter who’s 2 in May, I’d be leaving the room and ignoring it. She went through a stage of hitting herself when she got a annoyed, I told her “I’m going to ignore you when you do silly things like that” and it stopped pretty quickly

Going through the same thing now, & he’s 15 mos! 
It’s very terrifying, & as parents it hurts to see them hurt themselves, but I’ve been told by his ped that they don’t actually feel any pain while doing it. It can also be a “comfort thing” like sucking their thumb or sitting themselves. 
I will say though, my son has given himself bruises, BUT we just leave him alone. I’ve noticed that he doesn’t do it as much because I stopped giving in to him. 
I know it’s hard, but don’t give him attention. He knows how to get to you, & this is it. Talk to his ped about it, but this shall soon pass 🤞🏼🤞🏼

My son went through this!!! It was horrible. We took him to the DR and they reccomend walking away and ignoring it and it worked! He was one when it started as well. Now he doesnt do it at all! Good luck momma.

My son has autism, which consists of “self hurting” aka head banging, crushing his fingers in the door etc. when he headbangs we were told it’s for attention and to move him to a save area and ignore him (on the bed is fine but walls and stuff) when he crushes his fingers we have to intervene and once again just move him to a safe area. He only really does it when hes extremely frustrated or wants attention for his bad behaviors. He was prescribed a helmet for awhile! Advise his doctor of this as well!

My son never went through this, but my niece definitely did. Her pediatrician said it was nothing to worry about and it is actually very common. I believe I remember reading it was more likely to occur with boys.
