Daughter refuses to go ballet, should I force her to go ?

Question

So my daughter is 4 started doing ballet just before she turned 3, in the beginning she loved it and acted like it was the best thing ever. Now i have to bribe and drag her to go and she’s rather stay at home and play with other kids( my mums a childminder).
She also does swimming and loves it and she’ll happily go swimming but she never wants to go dance anymore.. she has the same teacher and nothing has changed but she seems to have lost interest.
My mum thinks I should still make her go because she regrets not forcing me to do dance when I was younger, but I feel bad so she keeps missing classes and I’m still paying 🙄 
I don’t know if this is a faze and it will pass or I should make her go, I just hate seeing kids crying coz there being forced to do something they don’t enjoy, I’d rather double her wining or try find another hobby 
Sorry for the essay but I don’t know what I should do please help !!!

I gave her a few weeks off and explained to her that she needs to stick to it and if by the end of the period I paid for she still doesn’t like it we’ll stop (but she’s been loving it ) yaaaay 🎉🎉🎉🎉

In our house once you sign up for something you stick with it till itsover 🤷🏻‍♀️
For instance my
Kids play select soccer which means I’m paying 700 dollars for two season and winter practice . My youngest decided she doesn’t want to play any more so she knows since fall season is past and we’re mid winter practices she still has to finish her coming up spring sesson🤷🏻‍♀️.  Then she can move on to something else. 
My husband an I both agree that once they make a commitment to something the need to see it threw them move on to something else as well feel if you let them quite things it teaches them that it’s acceptable to back out of the commitments they’ve made .

Personally, I'd finish out whatever you've paid for & then let her choose another activity. You can always see if she wants to try dance again later down the line, but now I'd look at it as an opportunity for her to try something new & see what she likes. If she was older & chose it, then it'd be different...that's just me though. 🤷‍♀️

My oldest is 7 and has been in dance since she was 2. If she ever once said she’s done or didn’t want to go anymore then I would take her out. I wouldn’t make her do anything she didn’t want to. I want her to have fun and enjoy it!

If you let her quit you teach her to give up.  Teach her instead to follow through.

If she's been doing it for over a year and has decided that she doesnt really like it, let her try something else along with her swimming. Just ask her if she wants to try something different. Not all like dance, and if she doesn't, there's no need to force it.

I'm not sure how ballet works but I plan on having my kids join and finish and if they don't like it they can stop AFTER the season ends. I'm thinking dance is different. If she loves swim but doesn't like dance that much since she's only 4 why don't you let her take a break and start up again later if she's interested. She may come to miss it if she isn't forced to go. With her being only 4 I don't think she'd want to stop just because it's "hard" you know? People may think different but I was a kid that never got to play sports or do dance or anything at all cause my mom. Couldn't afford it so I never even asked. I wish I could have at least tried.

The only time I would force a kid to stick with something they don't like is if it's a team sport and that would only be until the end of the season. If she has a dance recital coming up and she would be letting down the others kids by quitting then it's a good time to talk about commitment and being a team player. If not, let her quit. She's doing swimming, I think that's plenty. Free, unstructured play is really important, so let her have at it.

Personally, if it's more than a one off, then I wouldn't make her go. If she's no longer interested, there's no point forcing the issue and she may always decide in a year or so that she'd like to give it another try. Plus, like you said, you're still paying, so it's a waste of money.

I would make her finish the classes I paid for, And let her know that we won't be signing up again if she really doesn't want to go. 
Firstly because I paid for it, 😂 secondly to try and teach her commitment.

She’s 4. I will never understand the idea of a kid quitting meaning they learn to quit. It’s okay to quit if you don’t like something when it comes to a hobby. Besides, even if you paid for those classes, those recital costumes are a whole different expense. As a kid, I did dance for less than a full season and hated it. When my mom found out the cost of the costume, she said I didn’t have to go anymore. As a kid, I was mainly introduced to physical activities: basketball, cheer, and dance. It wasnt until HS when I was able to do more academic things like forensics, student congress, drama club, etc that I finally stuck with it all through HS because I actually enjoyed it. I want my children to not be afraid to try new things because then they’d be stuck in it if they didn’t like it. If they don’t like something, unless I’m paying a crazy amount of money already, they will not be forced to do it.
