Induction?

I went to my 36 week appt today, my due date is March 10th. She said she is on call on the 4th (I'll be 39 week, one day) and if I want she would induce me then. I'm torn. With my first I had preeclampsia and had to be induced at 37 weeks. My induction went super smooth, but with this one I'm for some reason worried about induction early with no medical reason. What are you ladies doing?

For what it’s worth - I would not opt for an induction unless you really need it. It’s purely for convenience in this case. Induction with artificial oxytocin (pitocin) is more difficult and can be more painful. In my case I think I ended up having an epidural and vacuum delivery because I was induced. 
It is one of a number of interventions that can have a cascade of effects. 
If you can manage it, rather try hang tight for baby to come in his or her own time. Speaking to my mom friends - it seemed like this had better outcomes - less interventions. That’s my point of view- I’d love to hear from other moms and opposing points of view too. Clare

Do what’s best for you. If I were in your situation, I wouldn’t induce without a valid, evidence based medical reason. The last few weeks a lot of brain development is happening. Inductions do heighten the risk for a cascade of intervention that may not be necessary if you wait. I would rather go naturally when my body was ready and risk not having my doctor. Your labor may not progress far enough to deliver before your doctors shift is over anyway. If I had to be induced for some medical reason, I would push it back as long as possible to get the baby to term.

I plan on being induced at 39 weeks as well. It is 100% a personal decision. It can be more painful but if you plan on getting an epidural you should be fine.

I personally hate induction. I was induced with my first due to preeclampsia and I’ve never had to do it again so I won’t unless medically necessary. I cried when the scheduled my induction date with my second. Thankfully she came before the set date. My third I wouldn’t even talk about induction until I was closer to 42 weeks which again didn’t make it to that. My labors are already extremely fast and therefore extremely painful, I don’t need the added pitocin to help. But that’s simply my view. Other women prefer induction. My aunt had her first when he decided to come and hated it and was induced with all other 4 kids, cause that’s what she preferred.
