What would you do?

So my bf and I are going through a transition stage of our relationship. We’ve recently been through a ROUGH patch and we are working on things to make us better. He just suggested to “not have sex so we can really focus on our relationship” HIS WORDS. I was shocked because he is very sex driven and has a higher sex drive than me and ALWAY wants to have sex or at least sexual acts done....so when he said that I was super surprised then immediately suspicious. We have had cheating incidents before so I’m on guard... I guess the problem is I don’t know if he’s actually serious about saying sex shouldn’t be a big deal in our relationship and truly wants to work on our problems or this is another way of him getting a side chick or something.... thoughts?
