SO there for birth?

So I just got a call from my husband. He is a police officer and his Sargent just sent everyone an email that they will not be able to take vacation days during the last 2 weeks of April due to an event in our city. Our due date is April 23. I will have to have this baby exactly on our due date in order for him to be present for her birth! That is his normal day off. I am trying not to freak out too much.

My husband is a police Officer and we are due April too but fmla prevents them from doing that. Even if mandatory days required. So don’t stress compete the paper work with hr and they can’t stop him from leaving early or calling out for it. Federal law doesn’t matter how long he’s been at the department.

If they won’t let him be there for the birth of his child then he needs to find a new job. Just wait till time comes and see what happens though.

Yes, FMLA is going to be a lifesaver for me and my detective hubby. He got his paperwork in weeks ago and our due date is April 28th. It’s a blessing to know he’ll be able to spend a good chunk of time home after baby is born. 🤗

Use FMLA for him! No restrictions on that (legally).  Your doctor can even fill his out.

My husband is a police officer as well. I have not heard of what you are describing from any nearby departments, however, my husband is also supposed to have a day off the day of delivery. I believe his squad is prepared for him to be off after the baby is born. If our LO comes on an “on” day, he plans on taking PTO or a sick day. Has your husband asked his Sgt about this scenario specifically?

Has he done his FMLA paperwork? I’m due 4/24 and my husband just turned his in and it’s all approved, you guys should be good! Even if you go into labor early, he should just be able to call and let them know his leave will start earlier!

My husband is a Leo and if I go into labor they will let him off. It’s a family emergency and they will make exceptions. He just needs to speak with his superior and explain the situation and he should be fine.

I am right there with you! My husband is in the military and I always so afraid something is going to come up and he won't be there for the birth of our daughter!
