When to introduce baby food??

My son is 4 months old. Can I start to give him baby oatmeal? Just to give him tastes here and there. When did you start feeding your baby oatmeal and other baby food?

New studies say you shouldn't. Wait until he's closer to 6 months, & instead of the nutrient-less oatmeals & cereals, go straight for the veggie & fruit purees!

You can do 4 months as long as baby shows interest. We started at 4 months and no issues at 15 months.

We never gave our daughter any of that junk and we started solids (real solids - baby-led weaning) at 6 months just as the AAP and the WHO recommend. It's also a very outdated recommendation to give cereals and oatmeals as they offer no nutritional value whatsoever.

Ask your child's doctor. Older recommendation is to wait until 4 months for formula fed babies and 6 months for breastfed babies. Some newer studies I've seen have recommended waiting until 6 months for formula and 8 months for breastfed babies.
Baby cereals (oatmeal, rice, etc.) don't provide significant nutrition, but they can be used to introduce and change textures.

I started at 6 months doing BLW. Babies at the age are interested in everything including what mama is eating, doesnt mean they are ready.

I gave my daughter that stuff at 4 months as per my pediatrician. It’s fine. You don’t have to wait until 6 months unless there’s another reason too.
