Saline Sonogram - TMI lots of details

I just went through the horrors of a saline sonogram today. I had googled this procedure beforehand and my experience wasn’t anything close to what I had read online. I would love to hear some feedback from others who have had one before to compare and understand if my experience was normal.

Here are the highlights:

- They laid pads down all over the floor and the saline/blood mixture just gushed out of my body, down the table and all over the pads and floor making a mess. my nurse practitioner even had blood on her clothes

- it was extremely painful, I cried partway through (and for about an hour after it ended) and one of the nurses in the room held my hand so I could squeeze it for some relief

- it lasted 45 minutes... not the 3-5 minutes I had read online

- when I stood up blood mixture gushed out of me and into the floor and my socks, I’m still bleeding 3 hours later. I mention this because online searches resulted in “mild spotting” for a bit afterward.

If this is typical I just wish I could have been prepared ahead of time. I’m very upset over this and had no idea that this was going to be my afternoon. Even if I had just known it was such a messy procedure would have helped set my expectations.
