Worst snow storm in years— induction birth story!

Kelsi

I live in a tiny town about an hour and a half from the closest hospital or doctor. We are in the mountains and used to winter weather, this year has been a really mild winter and we were hoping that would last through our sons birth. I am a FTM and was super nervous about the long drive already, so adding snow did not sound fun. Well of course the week before my due date the weather turns to all snow. It snows 3.5 feet the weekend I am 39 weeks pregnant. During that time all phone services and WiFi get knocked out( we don’t have cell service so all have land lines) so I couldn’t call 911 if we needed. Then trees start falling and blocking the road out for hours at a time.

So we decide at my 39 week appointment, I was 39+4 to stay down in town at a hotel until he is born. My doctor refused to set an induction date until I was 40 weeks. But we finally got it set for the 14th of February at 40+3.

We head to the hospital at 10 am on Valentine’s Day. Get hooked up to pitocin and wait. Contractions start coming regularly and stronger but I am not dilating or effacing any more than I was when I came in at 2,5 cm, 80% effaced.

So at 7:30 st night they decide to stop pitocin give me a break, let me eat and try switching to cytotech.

Well over night little mans heart rate keeps dipping to 80 and below so they wait for cytochrome until the morning when he has stabilized. Luckily this let me sleep most of the night.

February 15th we insert my second dose at 8:30 am and it is on. Contractions start moving and by noon I am 4 cm.

The doctor breaks my water and labor gets real, real fast! 2/10-8/10 pain wise and I instantly start throwing up during each contraction. So we get an epidural and I nap from 1pm-3pm. When I wake up I am 8 cm dilated and baby is now engaged!

At 4:15 I needed to push and by 4:45 my baby was here!

30 hours of labor, a huge snow storm and so much stress and this little man made it all worth it with his first little cry!

Rhylan Anthony 7lbs 0 oz, 19.5 inches long. And my whole heart!
