2-3-19 birth story

Karen

Slate was born 2-3-19 @ 7:58pm at 37 weeks and 2 days weighing 6 lbs 8 oz. He earned a ticket to the NICU when his blood sugar tested very low 2 hours after birth. They put in an N-g tube for feedings in order to give him more calories and up his sugar levels. Three days into our NICU stay, his bilirubin levels elevated and he developed jaundice and he spent 24 hours under the bili light. I was a hot mess but it was a blessing we were in the NICU when this happened so it was caught early, otherwise he would have needed a blood transfusion. Five days into our stay, I was readmitted to the special care unit for high blood pressure for 2 days. Thankfully, the nurses were able to bring him down to me for periods during the day for feedings. It was so hard to be away from my new baby tho and I did a ton of crying. He spent a total of 9 days in the NICU and we finally got to come home on 2-12-19. We are so thankful for the kind nurses and extraordinary care we received, but are so happy to be home!
