Fentanyl?

Went on a hospital tour today and they said they have fentanyl for the IV if you don't want the epidural?... that makes me extremely nervous? Has anyone done that route?

I don’t want it bc it’s opioid based and I don’t want to feel loopy and out of it mentally during birth. I’m hoping my hospital offers the gas option. I don’t want the epidural either.

Had a friend use it and she said she regretted it. It made her feel very loopy and sick.

I had requested it with my first because I was scared of the epidural. The nurse said that it also sedated the baby and recommended the epidural. I did the epidural instead and don’t regret it at all. I’ve also googled it and it appears to be true that fentanyl effects the baby but an epidural does not.

Fentanyl is pretty safe for labor (opioid scientist here). Safer than almost any other time. If you’re worried, ask for a different opioid

I attempted to avoid the epidural and did that instead and honestly it made me tired and out of it. If I could do it all again, I wouldn't have done that, especially since I still ended up getting the epidural.

I had it.. maxed out my dose with my daughter and did squat in my option with my first! I was a little loopy but felt the pain from the contractions a ton still.. literally felt like it did nothing for the pain.

I had it with my first as I was in a ton of pain from being induced and my epidural was coming in a few hours, so I was on every drug under the sun.
(Normal inductions arent as awful as mine was)
The only drug I regret is fentanyl, when I had it, that was the only time I blacked out in my 36hr labour, I remeber sleeping between contractions, waking up to breathe through one then passing back out( my contractions were 1 min apart from induction to active labour )...
I only remember doing that 5 or 6 times but apperently that lasted about 5 or 6 hours...... so, I've already made a note to not have it again.

I was told there was fent in my epidural. I felt fine and baby was very aware after birth. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I asked for it didn’t know it what it was until after, never again I felt horrible my lips were trembling I felt high ! It’s a no for me and no epidural either I had the worst experience as well. This is baby number 2 and going for an unmedicated delivery.
