Has anyone taken provera for prolonged spotting?

I have slightly long irregular periods but I do get them. However since December first I’ve had nearly constant spotting. If all tests come back clean, my doctor will be giving me a ten day supply of provera to “jumpstart” my cycle and get it back into rhythm. Has anyone tried this before? I see a lot of people posting about how it was followed up with colonie but that doesn’t seem to be the case for me... I just want to have a period and ovulate/not bleed all the time anymore! SOS! Any information is helpful!
