My son won’t sleep in the bassinet

My little guy isn’t even a week old yet but I don’t know what to do when it comes to sleeping at night. I honestly do not get more than an hour of sleep every night. He will not sleep in the bassinet we have for him - I think it’s too big and he can move around in it and I don’t like it. The siding is mesh but I still have actual nightmares about his face getting caught in the sides. I do not want to co-sleep because I just don’t want to worry about the potential of dropping g him/hurting him. I let him sleep on my chest sometimes by the time it’s like 4am but I always end up jerking myself awake and I don’t want to do that. Last night out of desperation I put him in his rock and play...he loves that and will sleep in it during the day when I can watch him but I know it’s not the flat surface that is recommended and I know there’s a SIDS warning with it like lost baby items and even when I put him in it I don’t sleep I just watch him. I am terrified of something happening. I really feel like I am failing at this and can’t do this 😭😭😭😭
