Does my newborn know I’m his mom?

Ok so this may sound stupid to ya’ll but I have this question... Does my newborn know I’m his mom? Like I’m on maternity leave right now and I spend so much time with him but I just have this side of me that worries he doesn’t know I’m his mom and won’t love me. Like I said I spend all day with him. I breastfeed, I do the diaper changing as well. My mom will pick him up and talk to him here and there and he will smile at her and that’s when I get this thought in my head of “what if he doesn’t know I’M his mom” idk it might be stupid to y’all...

He's too young to grasp the concept of "mom". He doesn't know what that means. He knows who takes care of him and your scent and voice are distinct to him. Basically all he knows is hungry, tired, wet, poop.. lol he won't know what mom means for a little while.

Like someone said he doesn’t “know” because he’s too young and doesn’t know what a mom means. However, he was just inside your body for nine months and they hear your voice and heart beat. They can hear mostly everything else but they know you the most. It’s a natural biological thing. 
Your breasts let him know what’s up too. I mean literally the areola secrets oils naturally and it has a scent to it that draws your baby in for milk. 
What he does know naturally is that you are his source of food, comfort, warmth, getting his butt cleaned. 
Before I nannied I was in an infant room at a daycare and for the tiny newborn babies I requested that moms would bring in a shirt they slept in because even being that little they wanted their mom and even her scent being on a shirt for them to hold on to would soothe them. It would be that kinda thing where I could rock and soothe that baby all day but they wouldn’t calm down until I offered something that smelled like momma. They may not know the meaning but naturally they certainly know the bond. 
Before this sounds weird I need to back it a bit. My room was mostly filled with staff babies so all of them were my coworkers babies and almost all strictly breast and no bottle. They were able to feed at any point in the day as their baby demanded. some of them were very close friends with eachother. Let’s say a certain mom wasn’t there like was on a field trip with her class and her baby was strictly breast fed-she would ask a friend with a baby that is also breastfed to step in breast feed her baby while she was gone. Much like wet nursing. I have literally seen a newborn baby straight up reject another woman’s breast like it smelled bad and tasted weird and look up at that woman like “ummm. No.” And her mom had to come back and feed her baby and she took to her moms breast straight away. The problem was that it wasn’t her mother. 
They don’t know, but they KNOW.

Of course he does. You are the MOST familiar thing to him. He’s been listening to your voice for months now. He recognizes and knows who you are.

Just read a article saying they think baby’s first works aren’t just dada bc it’s easier to say but bc they think of you as a physical extension of themselves, they just know how to verbally explain them selves . They know you though and though. Your smell you voice your touch.

I wouldn’t worry just yet about whether he knows what you mean to him. Just continue to be the mom he needs because right now, he has no concept of what is what. He doesn’t know why you change him, bathe or feed him. All he knows is the familiar sounds and scents of you.
Over the next few months he will change and grow so fast. He’ll start to make eye contact and smile at your face for the first time and that’s when you’ll get your answer. Then one day he won’t let you leave the house without him because he only wants you. There’s a whole process which will take place all in its own time, so just enjoy him for now, because they aren’t little for long 💕

If you carried him in your womb he knows your voice and smell is his “home”. I have read studies with newborns that in a room full of new mommies all with milk coming in they can easily tell which mom is theirs and will show a preference for their own mother, even on the dark. Don’t you doubt for one second. Your baby knows you are his safe place, his home.

Let’s be honest. Your newborns brain is growing brain cells at a rapid fire pace. 
I once read that “Being born so (comparatively) early means human babies spend all their early life lying about growing their brains. They make a million new brain cells every twenty seconds and this can use up to four fifths of their body’s energy.”
Your baby’s brain is most likely not developed enough to do the cognitive process that you’re describing here, knowing that you are his mom and what that means. Right now, his biology is concerned with survival, so he will most likely respond positively to any human that is caring for him, taking care of his needs, aka insuring his survival. 
That said, you can be sure that the day will come when his brain is able to make that cognitive connection. Keep caring for him, and he will know you are his mom when that day comes.
