Blood pressure during C section?

I had a consult with the anesthesiologist last week to discuss the risks of a c section since I have to have one ... one thing mentioned was that usually the spinal tap can make your blood pressure drop low. I already have pretty low BP so now I’m worried it’ll drop too low during surgery. Has anyone had this happen? What does happen if it drops too low during the C section?

Like others said they give you meds to raise your blood pressure. I wouldn’t worry hun your in safe hands. I had really low iron while they was doing my c-section they had extra blood on stand by in case I lost to much.. trust your doctors they know what they doing. 😊

I ran on the lower end all pregnancy and dropped to 80/40 with epidural then even lower during c section. They just gave fluids and meds. My fiancée woke me from a nap after my epidural because it was alarming blood pressure in the 80s and I’m a nurse so laughed and said it’s not that low and went back to sleep

I have normally lower blood pressure as well. Just had a csection on Thursday 2/21. As soon as I got the spinal and they laid me down, I got really light headed and my ears started ringing.  My blood pressure dropped so low, the machine didn’t register it.  The anesthesiologist gave me medicine immediately and lowered the head of the bed to get blood flow to my head. I was so scared at this point because I was afraid of feeling like I was going to pass out during the surgery. A minute later I felt better and then it was time to begin. It was a scary feeling but didn’t last long and the docs were right there.

This happened to me during my last c-section.  My blood pressure kept dropping and I knew as it was dropping because I got nauseous every time. The dr would give me medicine,  rubbed alcohol on my upper lip and kept talking to me.

My blood pressure through the pregnancy is usually 100/60, during my c-section I dropped to 50/30. I never felt weird but I noticed it was low because the anesthesiologist was moving around a lot. He gave me meds and it improved. I had no following issues

Take into account that you will be “a bit” stressed before c section and that may cause a higher than normal blood pressure. I have normally rather low blood pressure but in the operation theater it went up to 170. Once they gave me anesthesia it felt down to 100. I felt a bit strange for a moment, but they monitor you vitals there very carefully so don’t worry.

They monitor that the whole time. They have medication to help stabilize it if that happens.
