Baby friendly hospital

Ashley
Hi everyone! I'm pregnant with my 3rd  here! I just wanted to share a little info that I learned with my last pregnancy (my baby just turned one). There are hospitals that are considered "baby friendly" - if you look it up, you can learn more and possibly find out if the hospital your delivering at is one OR choose an OB that delivers at one. It makes your delivery and recovery so much more special than the typical hospital birth. With my son, as soon as he came out they laid his naked body on my chest and we instantly did skin to skin - they did not remove him from me until he fed from my breast and they patiently waited until he showed signs that he was ready (they root for your breast) it wasn't until after he ate that they cleaned him up and weighed him, then wrapped him up. This is so much more natural for a baby bc you don't interfere with their instincts to nurse and latch on. Most hospitals have you try and feed your baby after the baby's natural time has passed after birth bc  they clean your baby up, wrap them up etc.. The other big different is that they don't keep your baby in a nursery, in fact, it wasn't even an option! They encourage you to keep your baby with you skin to skin and feed them on command. It honestly was amazing compared to my first child which was the typical old school way of doing things. If breast feeding is important to you, I would definitely look it up!
