Possibly the end of our pumping journey?
My son is 9 months old, and I’ve exclusively pumped since we came home from the hospital. I managed to get him to latch with a shield but we didn’t stick with it very long (a couple weeks or so) because I was paranoid he wasn’t eating enough (looking back I’m sure it was just normal cluster feeding). I now have just over 3,200 oz frozen in our freezer. I’ve done some math and at 30oz/day (I estimated on the higher end of what he’d normally eat) I’ve got enough milk for 107 days. He turns 1 in 84 days, so I’ve got enough to last him 23 days after he turns 1. I’m getting to the point where I’m thinking of being done with the pump and feeding from the freezer. For those of you that have stopped pumping to feed from the freezer, how did you make that decision? I feel all kinds of mom guilt because I know breastmilk after one year is still beneficial. I feel like I’m making the choice of when to stop getting breast milk for him, rather than him making that decision for himself if we were nursing. I feel a lot of pressure from myself to be sure I’m making the right decision. Also, how did you wean from the pump? Did you cut out a session every few days/weeks or did you go cold turkey?
