Surrogacy/adoption question (edited)

I don't know where to post this to get the best advice but I figured this was a good place to start :)

So here's my predicament. My husband and I already have one child. For personal reasons, I am not willing to get pregnant again, however we would like another child in a few years time. We don't really have money for adoption or surrogacy. He said we could do it the "cheap way" If I was comfortable with it, which would be a friend of ours basically getting pregnant with his baby and after birth she would relinquish parental rights and I would adopt the baby. My question is that even something you can do? And what would the legal process be? To be clear I'm not 100% on this plan. Just wondering what the legality of it is. Once I have that info it would be something my husband and I would talk over at length. Any info would be helpful, thank you!

I understand everyone's concerns. I know this is a risky move which is why I'm not jumping into it. I was just curious if anyone had any idea how this would work legally. If we did go through with it, it would be someone who I trust with my life
