Reflux?

I have a strong feeling my son has reflux. 
I tried breastfeeding for a week but he lost too much weight and we are supplementing with formula to boost him up. Since starting, he has thrown up everything he ate twice, and gets horrible hiccups, and a few times has seemed as though he can’t breath and is trying to scream. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and I am so scared for him. 
How did you mommy’s know your babe had reflux?

Positioning when feeding can help. Make sure head is higher than rest of body- so shouldn’t be too flat on back. Feed smaller amounts and burp more often. Keep him upright at least 20 minutes after feedings. You could also try thickening the formula with oatmeal

Do you burp every half ounce? Most newborns have some type of reflux. It goes away over tome.

I agree with the other comments. Make sure you’re holding baby a bit vertical when feeding, taking breaks, burping. Make sure the nipple isn’t too fast on the bottle. My pediatrician said if it’s taking baby more than 15 min to finish 2 oz then the nipple is too slow but if formula is pouring out of his mouth than it’s too fast. We also found after burping, we hold baby in an upright or slightly upright position for 5-15 minutes. You may also want to try to switch to a gentle versions of your formula if you haven’t done that yet because it could be making your baby gassy since formula is harder to digest. After a few days  of switching to gentle formula our guy started to do much better.

My first spit up, a lot, after every single feed. She grew out of it around 9 months. Feed vertically, slowly, and elevate for a while after the feed. As long as baby is gaining weight, there’s no reason to worry about reflux.
